The Bethsaida Course
Would you like to become a youth leader in your parish?
The BCYS Bethsaida course is your gateway to a rewarding voluntary role working with young people in your parish.
Why Bethsaida?
In John 1:44 Philip, Andrew, Peter and Nathanael were called by Jesus in Bethsaida. Obviously this is a place rich with prospective disciples! We pray that your parish is equally rich with prospective youth leaders, adults who can be disciples for the young people of your area.
What is the Bethsaida Course?
This course is the training programme, created by the Birmingham Catholic Youth Service, designed to enable volunteers to gain the tools and knowledge to begin parish youth ministry in their community. Bethsaida has successfully supported volunteers and led to the opening of over 55 parish youth groups across the diocese.
Each course consists of a series of workshops combined with practical experience of youth work in your parish or deanery.
Sessions include;
- Why Parish Youth Work?
- Group Work and Leadership Skills
- Sharing Faith with Young People
- Legal Matters and Safeguarding
- Programme Planning and Resources
Each session lasts for two hours during this four week training course in youth leadership.
Support can continue after the course at regular network meetings, where leaders from neighbouring parishes can exchange ideas and share good practice.
Interested?
If you are interested in a course for your parish, get in touch with your local Kenelm Youth Trust Development Worker, who will organise an information evening for parishioners interested in volunteering, or give you information on courses starting in your area.
